Were you aware of this? Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) created standards in 1991 that require all freestanding ranges manufactured after that year to be able to support 250 pounds of weight on their open oven doors. This is not a "code"or law but safety guidelines that really should be followed. The Consumer Product Safety Commission report that from 2006 to 2008 there was an approximate yearly average of 17,000 tip over injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms & 13 deaths.
This is something I note on almost every home inspection I do. So what if your house or stove was built before 1991. This is still a safety hazard which is easily corrected.
